I modified a Win98 boot disk image.
I wrote this image file to a floppy disk. After booting, I used the mem command to check it, and the Reserved line was as follows:
Reserved 384K 384K 0K
Then I burned this image to a CD, used Diskemu to emulate floppy booting, and after booting, I used the mem command to check it, and the Reserved line was as follows:
Reserved 0K 0K 0K

Why??? The same image file gives different boot results from CD and floppy?
This makes it impossible for me to install Win98 after booting from the CD, because there isn't enough conventional memory.

I burned the floppy image file onto a CD, then used Diskemu's run command to load the image and emulate floppy booting:
Memory Type Total Used Free
---------------- -------- -------- --------
Conventional 619K 126K 493K
Upper 0K 0K 0K
Reserved 0K 0K 0K
Extended (XMS) 31,744K 4,160K 27,584K
---------------- -------- -------- --------
Total memory 32,363K 4,286K 28,077K

Total under 1 MB 619K 126K 493K

Largest executable program size 493K (504,992 bytes)
Largest free upper memory block 0K (0 bytes)
MS-DOS is resident in the high memory area.

Booting from a floppy using the same image file, while also inserting the CD mentioned above and loading the CD driver:

The contents of config.sys are as follows:
(using the same CD-ROM drive, with the same CD inserted at boot, and oakcdrom.sys always taking up 35KB)

device=himem.sys /testmemff
device=oakcdrom.sys /d:mscd000
files=20
buffers=20
dos=high,umb
stacks=9,256
devicehigh=ramdrive.sys /e 4096
devicehigh=ansi.sys
lastdrive=z

That boot disk has poor compatibility. Better try the various MS-DOS 7.10 or other DOS (such as FreeDOS) boot disks we made.

But config.sys only loads those few files.
These are all standard files.
How could there be a problem?
So frustrating, I've been bothered by this problem for a whole week.
