DOS stands for freedom, openness and progress. Let us work hard, learn from the openness and GNU spirit of FreeDOS and Linux, and together build and grow a free GNU GPL world!

There is no EMM386.EXE file on the Windows 98 boot disk, yet in CONFIG.SYS it adds
DOS=high,umb
Is this command still effective?
One more question: in CONFIG.SYS,
DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS /TESTMEM:OFF
what does TESTMEM:OFF after the “/” mean? Is it okay not to add it?
Please advise

If there is no EMM386 or UMBPCI etc., as long as there is HIMEM, DOS=HIGH is effective, but DOS=UMB is ineffective. /TESTMEM:OFF means do not test memory; it makes no difference whether it is there or not.
