I downloaded some boot disks and found that the CD-ROM acceleration method still uses Smartdrv. Here I’m providing a Smartcd.exe (not sure where I got it from). It doesn’t need to be loaded in Config.sys; you can just run it directly when needed.
Usage:
smartcd 8192(provides 8M cache for the CD-ROM drive)
smartcd /un(unload Smartcd from memory)
smartcd /? (help)
When installing NT4 or Win2k under DOS, you’ll notice that with or without this cache, the installation speed is like the difference between a small van and a Mercedes-Benz.
