My WIN98 is using the school's LAN. One time Internet Explorer suddenly couldn't browse web pages. I tried PING and it worked, the gateway and everything else were all normal. QQ and online games could also connect. After reinstalling explorer, it still couldn't browse. In the end I had no choice but to use ghost to reinstall the WIN98 system, and the problem was solved. I was just getting happy, but after shutting down, the next day Internet Explorer couldn't browse web pages again. After restoring the system with ghost it worked again, but after shutting down it failed again. If this keeps going, even if the system doesn't crash, I will. I still don't want to use another browser, so I sincerely ask all the experts for advice. Waiting online~~~~

Don't use IE to browse web pages! Use Opera! It's much safer!

It's not because of IE or any particular browser. No matter which browser I use, web pages just won't open, but online games still run fine, and QQ is also completely normal...

Have you considered that the DNS server might not be set up properly?

Browsing web pages requires a DNS domain name resolution server to resolve the URL address. So, could it be that the local domain name resolution server has been hacked?

If that were the case, then instead of logging in with a domain name, I could just use the IP address directly. But I tried using the IP and it still didn't work

My IP address can be Pinged, but web pages still sometimes just won't open. There's also a very strange situation: on our LAN there are four machines, and if one of them creates an Age of Empires II: The Conquerors host, web pages immediately stop opening. I think it should be a problem on the telecom DNS server side. I've been setting up LANs myself for several years, so I basically wouldn't make such a low-level mistake, and I've repeatedly checked the network settings.

ghost image files themselves are not backed up very stably, so I recommend using the sfc command to check whether there is a problem with network-related files. For example C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\wsock32.dll and so on
