Personally, I think a membership system should probably cover the following points:
1. The distinction between ordinary members (those who have registered on the DOS Union Forum) and senior members (members recognized by DOS Union); 2. The standards for becoming a member; 3. The rights and obligations of members; 4. Supervision of members, plus rewards and penalties. And so on... So here I’ll expand on these points: First, ordinary members and senior members 1. Ordinary members There are no requirements at all for joining as an ordinary member; as long as you have registered on the DOS Union forum, that is enough, and there are no obligations. The rights are: a. you can browse and download all kinds of existing resources on this forum; b. you can make posts to ask questions and get help with difficult problems (of course, only within what others are able to do); c. you can upload or download shareable resources through DOS Union’s public FTP. 2. Senior members In comparison, the requirements would be stricter. First are the conditions for joining: a. you must submit an application in the corresponding section and pass an assessment. (application section to be decided); b. as a technical backbone of CDU, you must have a certain technical foundation (please have Wengier or other moderators provide the evaluation standard; to be decided); c. those whose technical ability is insufficient but who have made special contributions to CDU. Next are the obligations: a. senior members must assist the moderators and help other members learn and improve; b. publish their own research results and related materials to share with CDU; c. promote and develop CDU; d. within their means, provide some material help to CDU, such as homepage and FTP space, or even some financial assistance, etc.; (this point needs an explanation: it is not compulsory or required, but since CDU is a non-profit organization, things like domain names and hosting can only rely on everyone’s support); e. as core members, they should often come to CDU to communicate with everyone. Then there are the rights: in fact, compared with ordinary members, for senior members it is more a matter of participation. For the projects CDU is currently focusing on, or will support and develop in the future, senior members can participate throughout the whole process and share all CDU resources. As mentioned above, we are a non-profit organization and cannot bring everyone any profit. What we do have is participation and sharing! Second, the classification of senior members It could probably be divided like this: according to different main directions, the technical department within the management committee would classify them, such as boot disks, networking, and so on. As for those non-technical personnel responsible for affairs, they would be assessed separately by the CDU committee. Third, supervision and rewards/penalties 1. The CDU management committee should establish a special department to supervise the entire CDU, and part of its work would be the evaluation of rewards and penalties for senior members. 2. A check-in system. There should be a reporting office set up on the homepage (this should count as some kind of web database technology, I once saw it on the homepage of some gaming clan). Senior members should check in regularly; those who have not shown up for too long would go onto the missing list. 3. Evaluate the results and materials they publish. 4. …………As for exactly how to reward or penalize people, I really can’t think of anything. Things on the Internet… it would probably just be spiritual encouragement… The above are just some of my personal thoughts. Let’s all discuss it together. |

It depends on everyone’s own self-discipline.
What else can be done? |
