Brother Wengier, I have some questions to ask:
1. When I follow Mr. Mo's articles to learn how to Chinese-localize DOS programs, I often find that the exported text file does not contain the English sentences I want to look for, and what is shown is all garbled text. For example:
edit2 /s:4 XMSDSK.exe XMSDSK.txt, the generated XMSDSK.txt does not contain those complete English sentences I want to find. Also, I used the edit2 /s:4 command on the SPFDISK.exe that you Chinese-localized to generate a txt file because I wanted to study it, but I still couldn't find the Chinese sentences you localized either; it displayed nothing but garbled characters. Why is this? Have these programs been compressed or encrypted?
2. How can I tell what kind of compression or encryption a certain program uses, and how should I decrypt and decompress it before I can Chinese-localize it? How do I use the decompression command?
3. When Chinese-localizing a program, how can I get past its byte-size limit and add "China DOS Union Forum of United DOS" and the Chinese-localizer's own information onto its interface?

Please enlighten me, thank you!

Because EXE files under DOS are usually compressed with PKLITE, UPX, etc., you have to decompress them first before you can correctly extract the text inside.
If you want to know whether a file is compressed, you can use the file editing function in PCTOOLS from Ruanjing to inspect it. Usually, near the beginning of the file you will see the signature text left by the compression software.

Thanks, moderator. I'd also like to ask how to decompress files compressed with PKLITE, UPX, etc. What should the command format be? Thanks again!

The following is quoted from sglxy's post on 2003-9-13 9:12:28:

PKLite decompression command:
PKLITE -x
If it can't be decompressed, then use UNPKLite
UPX decompression command:
UPX -d
If it still can't be decompressed, then it may be encrypted or the version may be wrong

If you want to check what compression tool a file uses, GT (that is, GetType) is the most convenient. For example: GT COMMAND.COM

Sorry, our Internet access has been abnormal these past few days, and only now did I notice that the experts had already come by. I'd like to ask one more thing: can the programs you mentioned be found on our New DOS Era?
