The original system was Windows 98se,

booting with the MS-DOS 7.1 Super Boot Disk succeeded

using SYS to transfer the system files also succeeded, but after rebooting it still

could not boot. After trying many times there was still no effect. Later I had to use the full

MSDOS 7.1 installer to install it before it could boot.

The full MS-DOS 7.10 installer further down is the one used to install MS-DOS 7.10 onto the hard disk. The boot disk is not.

I want to ask the moderator or any experts here: I already had WIN2000 installed (on drive C) and WIN98 (on drive D). Since I wanted to learn some DOS, I used DOS71a.b made by wengier that I downloaded from this site to install DOS (on drive C), and by mistake I chose not to enter 98 by typing “WIN”. As a result, not only did my 98 boot menu disappear, I also could no longer enter my 98 by typing “WIN”. Reinstalling DOS no longer gives that prompt either. How can I restore my 98? 3X!

Just use the 2000 repair program; if you have bootpart, that can also be used

In this situation, assuming Win98 is under C:\WIN98, just enter the following commands to get into the Win98 GUI from DOS:

CD \WIN98
WIN
(and do not enter C:\WIN98\WIN directly)

Previously I installed 2000 on drive C first, then 98 on drive D, and used 2000 repair to get dual boot. Recently I installed DOS71 on drive C, but I mistakenly chose not to use “win” and then couldn't get into 98, and even after using 2000 repair it still doesn't work. I tried what the webmaster said and entered my D:\windows\win, but it showed “It is now safe to turn off your computer”. Other than reinstalling 98, is there any other way to make my 98 show up again? :0

Oh, boot with the 98 installation disk, do sys c:, then use 2000 repair again. This should be a problem with MSDOS.SYS.

Of course, it could also be VMM32
Somehow somewhere I've got to choose.

You can't use c:\windows\win directly. You should enter them in order:
c:
cd \windows
win
or manually modify the winbootdir path value in C:\MSDOS.SYS.

If you want to modify it after startup, please refer to this BAT file:
