My laptop has no CD-ROM drive, floppy drive, or any

other device it can boot from externally, and the machine is

a 486DX, so files can only be transferred into it

through LapLink. What should I do to safely replace the

operating system?

Take the hard drive out!
Get an adapter,
connect it to a desktop!
After copying the files, put it back in!

There's another trick: take out the hard drive, find an external hard drive enclosure, take it to another machine to copy the files and Ghost a system onto it, then bring it back and use it. Anyway, a 486DX can use at most 98.
