A U.S. company claims that it is preparing to use a “compressed” version of the Windows XP operating system with some non-essential functions removed.The American company LitePC.com is now providing registered users with a beta trial of the so-called “XP Lite” operating system. This is a system obtained by removing some non-essential elements from Windows XP.
LitePC.com’s website says that the results of a poll it conducted show that many users do not care about dropping the “Windows File Protection” (WFP for short) feature in Windows XP and Windows 2000.
The site also asserts that, compared with other products Microsoft has released so far, even if none of Windows XP’s extra features are selected for installation, it still takes up a very large amount of space.
The site also provides a feature list. According to it, the features in the list can all be removed from Windows XP and help reduce the space it occupies. The image below is the file tree of the “XP Lite” beta:
