I used winImage to make a 2.88M .img, then mounted it in vmware4:
c:\>format a:/f:2.88
Insert new diskette for drive A:
and press ENTER when ready...

Checking existing disk format.
Formatting 2.88M
Parameters not supported by drive.

It says the drive does not support that parameter.

Then I went into the BIOS and changed the floppy drive to 2.88M (in vmware):
c:\>format a:/f:2.88

Failed again.

Then I used WinImage to make a 1.44M one, mounted it, and used format a:/s to make a boot disk. Then I found that WinImage can directly change the image file format, from 1.44M straight to 2.88M. I changed it and saved it. Mounted it again and booted:
This time it was even more direct—right after the system self-check, one line came out:
Disk I/O error
Replace the disk, and then press any key

What am I supposed to do?? Moderators, experts... please give me some advice!

Use winimage to make a 1.44M boot disk, then use winimage's change format to convert it to 2.88M, and that should do it.

VPC and VMWare don't seem to support large floppy disks very well...
