How do I modify BOOT.INI to set up XP/MS-DOS 7.1 dual boot?
Right now I've only got one kind of startup working... it's not really DOS at all, not even FORMAT is there, let alone any cache, I can only use some of the most basic internal commands, there's not even EDIT...
Please, experts, give me some ideas~~

What do you mean? You don't mean you want to boot DOS on an NTFS partition, do you.
If you can get to the prompt, how can there be no FORMAT? Run FORMAT.COM, maybe you forgot to set PATH.
Somehow somewhere I've got to choose.
No matter if it is win or lose.

I'm using a FAT32 installation of XP, so I want to make a dual-boot menu that can boot the MS-DOS boot disk downloaded here. It can't run FORMAT; when I run it, it says bad file name or file not found.
Since I'd like to keep it simple, I don't want to use any special tools, I just want to do it by modifying BOOT.INI...

Right, export the DOS DBR to C:\MSDOS.DBR
Then add C:\MSDOS.DBR=Microsoft MS-DOS 7.10 to boot.ini
Remember to set PATH & make sure FORMAT.COM exists, otherwise... you can't directly run FORMAT.
Somehow somewhere I've got to choose.
No matter if it is win or lose.

I'm a total DOS newbie... could you... please be a bit more detailed? I want to dual-boot the full-function version of MS-DOS 7.1 downloaded from here, so... what exactly should I do?

This is how my dual-boot menu BOOT.INI is written. My system is XP PRO. The key is that you must have the BOOTSECT.DOS file!!

timeout=0
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

C:\="MS-DOS"
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
言多必失!必失!!油多菜不坏,礼多人不怪

Then... a question...
BOOTSECT.DOS
Where can I get this file?
I want to use it to boot the "Fully Chinese MS-DOS 7.10 (Win98) Boot Disk Version 2.0" downloaded here.
Thanks everyone! Thanks!!

Also, does that mean that after getting this file, I can just put it directly in the root directory of C: and then modify BOOT.INI?
Also, how exactly should the PATH mentioned above be set?

Use the MS-DOS 7.10 installer to generate it automatically... because the contents of the BOOTSECT.DOS file are not fixed, they depend on the actual situation...

Expert, does the DOS installation disk overwrite XP's boot information?
