.
My hard disk boot sector was damaged today after an OS installation test was interrupted midway. After rebooting I couldn't get into the original system, and it took me quite a bit of trouble. After restoring it, I looked back at some recovery methods and made this boot disk. With it, you can restore the win2000 boot sector conveniently and easily.

(Note: using this boot disk rashly will modify your hard disk's master boot information. Please test it in VPC first before deciding!)

Wouldn't just booting from the 2000 installation disc and doing a repair do it?

Booting from the 2000 installation disc and repairing will certainly work, but it first copies files and leaves behind quite a few temporary files. Also, quite a few people's computers were installed by someone else, so they may not have kept the installation disc. And even if they do still have it, many people may not know how to operate it, especially when the hard disk can't boot. So this recovery disk is much simpler and more convenient, and it absolutely leaves no junk files.
Of course, for experts this kind of fault is not hard to deal with, and there's no need to stick to one method. This is just one more way, that's all.

OK! My friend's machine is XP, and the boot information was damaged. Using the OP's method for reference, I restored it! Thanks! ~~:)

Could the OP explain the recovery method in a bit more detail? I had to struggle a lot before I barely managed to restore it, and I still don't really understand the principle.

Aside from having those necessary files under C:\, what files are needed to run WINNT?

What I did was restore it with the OP's recovery disk, then boot with a boot disk, and replace those necessary files under C:\ with the XP ones.

But I just can't figure out how that BOOT****.DOS file generated under C:\ came about...

If it's winxp, then copy over the files ntldr and ntdetect.com from under winxp to overwrite them, and modify the 4 boot.ini files so they say "Start Windows XP" and it should be fine. I don't have winXP installed on my machine, so you'll have to test it yourself.
