What is EDO memory? Are you sure my Compaq 486DX40 model uses EDO memory? Then if this kind of EDO memory is sold for only around 10--20 yuan, and the size is 8M or 16M, can I buy it to expand the memory? It's just that I'm afraid I might damage the computer if I install it myself!! Thanks!! I hope you can help me out completely!!

Installing it should probably be no problem. The memory I mentioned should have basically been like that in that era, but it might not necessarily work well for you; there are other kinds too, it depends on your motherboard. Whatever memory your motherboard manual says it supports is fine. You'll have to buy this kind of memory second-hand. Adding 16M should make it feel a bit better in use; maybe your computer can take it.

EDO memory was the kind of memory popular in the 586 era, and it seemed to be a little faster than the ordinary memory of the time. I forget whether it can be used on a 486 that doesn't support EDO.
