China DOS Union

I ran into this problem while using it: I boot the computer with a WINDOWS98 startup floppy and choose to load the CD-ROM driver. But when I use DIR to view the CD, I can only see the first-level directories under the root directory; I can't see the subdirectories or the files under them, and I can't enter them either. Only a single-disc WINDOWS98 CD can be read. Other CDs won't work. I don't know what the reason is. I've tried many computers and it's the same on all of them.

It's possible that the format of your CD cannot be recognized by DOS. There are many CD formats; go look up some related materials and you'll understand. I don't remember the specifics very clearly either. Anyway, there are two kinds that DOS can recognize. One is still the 8.3 file format. The other has long filenames. The other kinds seem not to be recognizable by DOS. Since the Win98 installation disc has to be installed under DOS, it must be made in a format that DOS can recognize, so of course you can view its contents under DOS.

Which CD format can't be recognized by DOS? I don't think I've seen one before.

This kind of situation existed a long time ago; it is caused by CD format compatibility.

Could it be lowercase path names? Just use commands like LDIR. Or you can also use SHSUCD instead of MSCDEX.

Question for the admin: how do you use the LDIRT and SHSUC commands, and where can they be downloaded? Also, what method can make DOS read CDs in other formats? My WIN98 needs to be reinstalled, and because I used to have a Windows98 disc that could be read, I didn't make a backup on the hard drive, but now I've lost it, and the other discs can't be read. LDIR is very simple to use, just like the usual DIR command, but it can display long filenames (including those on FAT32 partitions and CDs). SHSUCD can be used just like MSCDEX.

I found it, but there's another problem: after replacing MSCDEX。EXE with SHSUCEX。EXE, I can read many directories and files, but if a directory name contains two spaces, then I can't enter it.
