This problem has been bothering me for several days, looking for help.
Problem symptoms:
A friend's machine has dual hard drives, 1=120G, 1=40G. The 120G is the main working hard drive (divided into 3 partitions, I forget the exact size ratio, operating system win2k), and the 40G (divided into 2 partitions, operating system win98). The machine had always been working normally. A few days ago there were several accidental power outages, then it was left unused for a few days. After powering it on again, the 120G hard drive could not boot. The screen shows (DHCP MAC ADDR :00 90 27 A8 BF 02

Booting with the other hard drive, I can see the last two partitions and read/write is normal, but the system partition is gone. After installing partition magic 8 to inspect this hard drive, there are no partitions at all, and it shows dynamic disk. Since a lot of my friend's work data is on drive C, I hope it can be repaired.

I checked again. The machine is networked with mine, and if I unplug the network cable this message does not appear. It directly prompts boot fail, so it looks like the 120G boot is damaged. I really haven't run into this kind of problem before, so I hope an expert can give me some pointers. Safety first, I don't want to damage the data.

You can try the Xiaolv Yuan hard drive bad sector detection software!
According to the company, it should be able to repair the hard drive without damaging the data. But I haven't tried it myself, so I can't guarantee it.

First, thanks to the poster above. I really haven't run into this kind of problem before. What I don't understand is whether the partition table is damaged or the boot sector is damaged, and then there's the Win2k issue too. Doesn't it add something to the boot sector? When you run into this kind of situation, the one thing you must not do is write data to the hard drive that needs repair.
If you have two computers, you can remove the hard drive and attach it to another good computer as a second hard drive. Then depending on the type of damage, use different methods to read out the data (not repair it).
After the data has been read out (or partially read out), then do the repair.
Improper hard drive repair can damage the data even more seriously, and may even make recovery impossible. If you're not experienced, I don't recommend repairing it.

Thanks. I've been busy for two days, mainly backing up the data from the last two partitions—there's just too much of it, and also the data on C. Please give me some more pointers on how to repair it, preferably manually under DOS, something that can be recorded and restored again if needed. Please advise further, thanks.

Also, does the poster above have any experience using things like Jiangmin Hard Disk Repair King 8.0 or diskgen? Or are there better tools? (I've been reading here for several days, there are many tools, and I don't know which one is the right one.) Experts with similar experience, please speak up too.

Thanks to the poster above. I just got home, that's why this reply is so late. You can probably tell too—with my level, I'm actually helping others solve hardware problems, which tells you the general level of the people around me. The main thing is that my friend has a lot of work data stored on C, so I don't want to take risks. It would be best if an expert could guide me in modifying it manually. If that doesn't work, I can still come back and try again. Right now I just need the C drive to reappear so I can back up the data and reinstall the system.

Use that iso, someone posted it earlier. There are lots of data recovery programs in it. Recover the data with it first, then you won't have to worry when you work on it. The premise is that you haven't written anything to the bad hard drive. You can also boot into the system from the 40g hard drive, connect the 120g, then download finaldata or easyrecovery to recover it. There should be no problem.

The C drive isn't hidden, is it?
Isn't there another hard drive too? Use PQmagic to take a look and see what exactly is wrong. A graphical interface is easier to use, right?
