I still haven't been able to make WinPE... I followed exactly the method taught by godent and sensen, so I don't think I made any mistakes. I tried it under Win2000 Simplified Chinese Advanced Server, WinXP Professional, and WinXP Corporate Edition, and not a single one worked...

I've bought pirated discs and downloaded WinXP ISO files online, twelve or thirteen of them in total, and not one of them let me make WinPE... sensen once advised me:
winxp original genuine installation CD (without SP1), size: 530186240 bytes. Check the size of your winxp CD.

It's already OK. Check whether there are software (about 560~620) and default (about 90~102) in your "\winpe\i386\system32\config\"
And whether there is setupreg.hiv (about 100~220) in "\winpe\i386\system32\"
If these three files are there, then you can make the CD. It isn't necessarily determined by the total file count; every disc and the written data are different.
If it's SP1, then add 17 files, and choose extension when making it.
For the boot file, just use any XP boot file.

But the WinPE made this way still won't boot!

If I ignore this mismatch and directly make it into a CD, after the WinXP boot screen it gives this error:
STOP: c0000218 unknown Hard Error
Unknown Hard Error

It's the same both in VPC and on an actual burned disc made with NERO.

It's been like this since a long time ago already, godant, what was it like when you made PE?

That means setupreg.hiv has a problem

Seeing how hard you've worked on making it, I really can't bear it.
Do you know how to use edonkey? If you do, I can let you download my xp. I can set the upload speed to 1M, every night from 7 to 12.
The ftp isn't mine, and the upload speed is too slow.

But I feel maybe it isn't necessarily the fault of the WinXP disc... One of my XP versions is Corporate Edition, also an original CD, and it still doesn't work...

I don't have any successful experience making WinPE, so I have no way to judge where the problem is...

If you used the tool I put on ftp to make it, in the end it should show: 1361 files were copied from 1361 files. If you made it correctly, then I guess the problem is with your disc. Although not all files necessarily need to be copied over, only heaven knows which ones are unnecessary.

What I used is exactly the tool from your ftp, but the final numbers come out different with every disc I try...
So now I'm extremely depressed. I can't even make the most basic WinPE, let alone the GUI...

Both files are correct. Is your "Corporate Edition" the PRO version? You must find a "professional" one. M$'s PE only supports the professional edition.

Also, that GUI issue, it can be done. Very simple. As long as the GUI doesn't carry sound card connection associations. You just need to change it a little. Below is a simple GUI I modified myself; its functions aren't very strong. Right now I want to find "MINIGUI", but I can't find it anywhere anymore. As long as software can run under 95 and 97, it can run on PE.

What I have installed on my machine is exactly this activation-free Corporate Edition, and it is the Professional version...

Its installation files have SP1 integrated. I tried several times right after installing the drivers cleanly, and it didn't work. Then I upgraded all the available patches through Windows Update and tried several more times, and it still didn't work...
