I have a notebook computer, an NEC e120. This computer’s special feature is that it is compact, and devices such as the CD-ROM drive are external
and connected through USB interfaces. Since the original system has a problem and can’t be restored, I have to reinstall the system. But right now I don’t know how
to install the CD-ROM driver under DOS. The mdos7.1 boot disk also won’t boot on my notebook, and now I really
have no way out. I also tried duse from the boot disk, and that didn’t work either. Please, experts, help! Oh right, the brand of my CD-ROM is YI-HE.
Thanks!

Are you using NT? If so, DOS A: is the optical drive area, but DOS apparently doesn’t support USB interfaces. Even 98 needs to install
drivers before it can use a USB interface.

Why won’t mdos7.1 boot your machine? Is the BIOS set to boot from the floppy drive?
If it really can’t be done, then the only option is to ask the manufacturer for after-sales service.
