I have an 8.4G Seagate hard drive. After installing DOS, when booting it only shows ","
I don't know why?

Which version of DOS did you install? Is it MS-DOS 7.10?

Some old BIOSes don't support large hard drives. Put it in the slave position, and try using a small hard drive to boost it a bit, maybe that will work.

I installed dos6.22 and windows3.11. On a newer machine, 8.4G shows ";" at boot. If I use sfdisk to install its boot manager, it can boot normally, but on an old COMPAQ (PII 266) machine it still won't boot normally, and at boot it reports that there is no boot disk.
What does "try using a small hard drive to boost it a bit" mean?

That means the DOS or BIOS version is too old. Try replacing it with a newer version of DOS, such as MS-DOS 7.10, ROM-DOS 7.10, and so on.
