How about the compatibility with 8.0? Will it prompt that the version is incorrect?

Yeah. Many functions in MS-DOS 8.0, like some common DOS device names such as LPT1, COM1, etc., were canceled by Microsoft, so functions like printing and communication are gone. Moreover, even programs like EMM386 cannot run. So it is far less useful than MS-DOS 7.10..

Each takes what they need. Sometimes 8.0 is useful, and more often 7.1 is used.
