I have two computers. On one machine, I can load the CD-ROM driver to boot, which is to select the first option to boot. But on the other computer (a newly configured Soltek 85DR motherboard this year), the first option cannot boot. Can you help analyze the reason?

Forgot to mention, the single Win98SE system that can load the CD-ROM drive driver to boot is the one where the CD-ROM drive that cannot load the driver to boot is the MSI-52X CD-ROM drive in the dual system of Win98SE and Win2K Server.
(注:原句中“忘了说了”翻译为“Forgot to mention”,“能加载光驱驱动启动的是单win98se系统”翻译为“the single Win98SE system that can load the CD-ROM drive driver to boot is”,“不能加载光驱驱动启动的是win98se和win2kserver的双系统”翻译为“the one where the CD-ROM drive that cannot load the driver to boot is the MSI-52X CD-ROM drive in the dual system of Win98SE and Win2K Server”,整体按照要求进行了翻译,保留了原有的结构和内容。)

When it can't start, it freezes. Even the Ctrl+Alt+Del hot start doesn't work, and I can only press the reset button to restart. Moreover, when I enter the Windows directory of drive C and type win and press Enter, the machine automatically shuts down.

My system is Win98 + WinXP. Why can't it be used? This has nothing to do with the dual system! Try replacing the following EBD.CAB file! It should work! Open the attachment

Hehe, that's great. I downloaded the EBD file you provided and updated it on the floppy disk, and everything is fine. Can you tell me what caused this problem?

Problems with SCSI CD-ROM drives!
When I use CTLOAD to load the CD-ROM drive driver, I load the SCSI CD-ROM first and then the IDE CD-ROM.
I wonder if there are SCSI devices on your machine!
This is very crucial!
Can you say something about it!
If there are SCSI devices, of course you should load the SCSI devices first!
So in the uploaded EBD.CAB, I removed the drivers for SCSI devices,
so the IDE CD-ROM can be loaded!

It's not right, I installed it too!
Why is there no problem then!
Help out,
Use the original boot disk,
Under the boot without loading any drivers,
Type ctload ASPICD.SYS /d:mscd001
See what the prompt is, okay!

Shen Jie, I followed your instructions to use the original boot disk without loading drivers to start, and typed in the command you mentioned, but only a line of prompt "Failed to load driver file" appeared.
