Remove the desktop's hard drive and hook it up to the laptop.

Does a laptop have an IDE hard drive interface for a desktop drive? Does the laptop need to be taken apart?

Why not use a CD burner? That way you don't have to open up the machines.

If both have network cards, just connect them directly with a crossover cable and share/copy the files.
If there are no network cards, you can use a USB external hard drive enclosure to copy them. By comparison, using network cards plus a cable is still the most economical and convenient. |

Use the serial port, or the parallel port to link them up; basically it can be done in one morning!
