That's probably because VPC 5.x is incompatible with Cloaking. This is a bug in the virtual machine, please run it in real mode.

I extracted it to a floppy and booted from it, and it's still garbled. Could it be related to my memory? RAMBUS PC800 256M

I used winimage to write it to a disk, and when I tested it in real mode it was also garbled.
My hardware specs:
EPOX EP-8RDA+ + Kingmax 256M*2 + athlon xp 1700+

I found it, that really was a bug when HD-COPY wrote the image. But I already switched to WinImage to make the image and re-uploaded it, so this time there should be no problem.

I downloaded your latest revised version (2003-8-3-16:22), used WinImage to write it to a floppy, and tested it on a real machine. It boots, but when using the mem command an error occurs:

Although the screenshot was taken under vpc (you can't take screenshots under dos), the error on the real machine is almost exactly the same as this.

Also, during startup there was a prompt roughly saying that loading emm386 does not require loading himem first. Is that really the case?
