I’ve run into this problem too. It seems there’s no way to have the program automatically detect which drive the CD is in, so the automatic recovery disk (GHOST7.5) I made only works normally if it’s put into the first CD-ROM drive, you can’t just put it anywhere. My solution was to directly assign the first CD-ROM drive as drive X, then point the Ghost command to drive X. I wonder if there’s some way to detect the drive letter of the drive the boot CD is inserted in, and then use that drive letter in the GHOST command?

I searched the old threads before, but didn’t see anything about dual CD-ROM drives...
Moderator Roy, how should these two commands, findcd and locate, be configured in Autoexec.bat and Config.sys
to make multiple CD-ROM drives all work?

FINDCD 2 can assign the drive letter of the 2nd CD-ROM drive to %CDROM%; FINDCD 3 can assign the 3rd drive letter, and so on;

If you run FINDCD /S, it will assign all CD drive letters at once as %CDROM1%, %CDROM2%, etc., while %CDROM% will be the total number of CDs.

If you know for sure the location of the file you want to call (for example qw.exe in the qw directory on the CD), then together with if exist and the dready tool it will do.

Example:
@ECHO OFF
FINDCD>NUL
DREADY %CDROM% >NUL
IF ERRORLEVEL 2 FINDCD 2>NUL
DREADY %CDROM% >NUL
IF ERRORLEVEL 2 GOTO END
IF ERRORLEVEL 0 IF NOT ERRORLEVEL 2 IF EXIST %CDROM%\QW\QW.EXE %CDROM%\QW\QW.EXE
GOTO END2

:END
ECHO Can not find QW.EXE!

:END2

Ah~~
Roy, could you explain the example a little...
I’ve never seen this kind of setup before, so I can’t quite make sense of it right away.

If you’re not sure of the location of the file you want to call (for example, you only know the filename is QW.EXE), then you need to use locate and nset.
Example:
locate qw.exe /np /d-|Nset QWPATH=$1

If you know for sure the location of the file you want to call (for example qw.exe in the qw directory on the CD), then together with if exist and the dready tool it will do.

例子:
@ECHO OFF ;turn off screen output
FINDCD>NUL ;use FINDCD to find the drive number (Drive letter) of the first CD-ROM
DREADY %CDROM% >NUL ;use DREADY to determine whether %CRDOM% is ready
IF ERRORLEVEL 2 FINDCD 2>NUL ;if it isn’t ready then use FINDCD to find the drive number of the second CD-ROM
DREADY %CDROM% >NUL ;use DREADY to determine whether %CRDOM% is ready
IF ERRORLEVEL 2 GOTO END ;if it isn’t ready then jump to END
IF ERRORLEVEL 0 IF NOT ERRORLEVEL 2 IF EXIST %CDROM%\QW\QW.EXE %CDROM%\QW\QW.EXE ;if it isn’t ready then check whether %CDROM%\QW\QW.EXE exists, and if so run CDROM%\QW\QW.EXE
GOTO END2 ;jump to END2

:END
ECHO Can not find QW.EXE!

:END2

Classic, thanks. I’m going to try it, and get my Ghost automatic backup/recovery boot disk to support any CD-ROM drive.
