Hello everyone, the PCI interface sound card (Diamond S70) cannot run the sound effects of "Chinese Paladin" under DOS, and it has not been solved for a long time. Today, taking advantage of some free time: upgraded the memory to 2G, Lenovo 845 motherboard, P4 2.0 CPU, Diamond S70 sound card (PCI interface) with DOS and XP dual systems. Played the DOS version of "Chinese Paladin", running perfectly, with music and sound effects. Now share this experience with everyone. Hope everyone can use it as a reference, try to debug their own sound cards, and don't let this forum be deserted. Also, please let go of those who disdain this, and don't talk about DOSBOX anymore. We mainly explore the DIY fun of games, thank you!
Alright, let's get down to business: first talk about the sound card driver. When running games under DOS, the sound card driver is very crucial. The DOS driver for Diamond S70 is very hard to find. I searched the internet many times and only found the WIN98 driver. What to do? First install 98, then install the Diamond S70 driver. It should be emphasized here that only by installing the 98 driver can the installation of the DOS driver be activated. The XP driver cannot install the DOS driver. Players must pay attention to this! Then upgrade and install the XP system (install it on other partitions except the C drive, control the C drive within 10G, FAT format, and the other partitions don't matter) hehehehe......
After the system is installed, it's the 98 and XP systems. How to get to DOS? Found relevant information, learned that as long as you modify a file to turn off the blue sky and white clouds logo by changing 0 and 1, you can directly enter MSDOS7.1 (specifically forgot which file, everyone can find it on the internet, hehehehe,) Rewrite the config.sys configuration file as:
device=c:\himem.sys
dos=high,umb
Write the CD configuration if needed. I don't write it.
The AUTOEXEC.BAT file is:
CTMOUSE.COM
MAESTRO.COM (the main program of S70) This is very crucial. Everyone don't think that just loading this line is enough, wrong!! Must install the S70 driver of the 98 system to add this line, so that the sound card under DOS can be driven.
CD configuration file (I don't write it)
In this way, the running memory is at least above 596K. Then everyone run XMSDSK /T 2081744 y (reduce the extended memory to below 32M. Mine is for 2G physical memory), everyone can play freely according to their own memory!
Forgot to say: In the BIOS, the memory hole (15M-16M), L1, L2 cache, etc., don't touch them! Just use the BIOS default settings (I have the memory hole turned off, L1, L2 cache turned on, just talking nonsense!)
Run PAL FM...OK
VO*.*.....OK
Enter the game, Li Xiaoyao's aunt slapped Li Xiaoyao on the head with a bang, good! I'm enjoying the music and sound effects again........
Forgot to say again: When installing, just set the Sound Blaster card!
