Question:

My machine has a Yamaha ds-xg (724) sound card. How do I load the sound card driver after restarting Win98 into MS-DOS mode? I installed cmdos.zip downloaded from this site, which is Yamaha's driver installation/configuration files (both 16-bit and 8-bit SB emulation can produce sound), but it still doesn't work . How should it be configured?
Because I want to listen to MP3s under DOS, using dosamp0.8. Why is it that when I use the following command:
dosamp file.mp3
it then shows:
File Init:
Opening 01.MP3... Success
Reading header... Success!
File Information:
Channels : 2
Samplerate: 44100 hz
Bitrate : 128 kbits/sec
jSound Init:
Checking for user supplied "driver.jsd"... Not found
Initializing drivers:
jSound Soundblaster Driver (Version 1.00)
jSound InterWave Driver (Version 0.99)
Detecting hardware: No sound device found!
Looks like there is a problem with the sound card configuration. Please, experts, give this student some guidance!
Thanks in advance!

You probably didn't install the sound card driver properly, or you didn't install SB-LINK. Mine is also a 724 sound card. Below is its DOS driver.

Thanks to the moderator for providing the driver! I just got home from Beijing yesterday.
After installing the driver it still doesn't work . Using setupds.exe in the driver package to set dma: 0, dma mode: the third option, then 16bit, 8bit, and fm can all be tested with sound... all can produce sound normally. But after saving the settings, regardless of whether I reboot the computer or not, dosamp says DMA timeout when playing music, and dss says
Sound Blaster series device not found:
Sound Blaster or compatible not detected .
Is it because SB-Link isn't installed, or should I use other software to play mp3? My machine is a Tianhe 660, and the motherboard is VIA applo pro 133 (693A). I didn't find any 5-pin SB-Link connector on the motherboard!
Please take the trouble to help me look at it again! Thanks!

Then there's no way. A 724 sound card needs SB-LINK to emulate an ISA sound card and use DMA1 and IRQ5.

Let me add a couple of words.
YAMAHA DS-XG PCI Audio CODEC (WDM)
YAMAHA DS-XG Legacy Sound System (WDM)
YAMAHA DS-XG GamePort
This is the sound card information for a Toshiba Satellite 2800. Does that mean it's impossible to use it under DOS?
Thanks...

Looks like I can only change the motherboard or sound card! Sorry to trouble the moderator, many thanks, many thanks!

Once I get it sorted out, I'll come back and say what the solution was. ]>
