I DIYed a USB hard disk, 40GB in size, and it supports USB 2.0. My motherboard is an 845PE model and also supports booting from a USB hard disk. I have already divided this USB hard disk into three partitions, the first one being a 500MB DOS primary partition. It can be used normally under DOS, Win98, WinXP, and other systems. But no matter what methods I try, I just can't use this USB hard disk to boot the computer in USB-HDD mode. Please, experts, help me out! See where the problem is. Thanks!!

It's already been a whole day, and still nobody knows the solution?

We've been using 1.44MB floppies for many years already, but booting from a USB hard disk is the direction things will develop in from now on. It can hold lots of programs and drivers, it's fast, and it's safe. Right now I can only boot the computer with a DOS boot CD that has USB drivers, and then use the USB hard disk. Why can't we boot the computer directly from the USB hard disk into DOS or WINDOWS? I think it ought to be possible.

Mine can boot. Could it be that your hard disk partition isn't active?

But honestly, using it for booting isn't all that fast, not even as fast as the CD-ROM drive.

I generally only use it after finishing the system install, when it's time to install application software.

I already activated the partition, but it still can't be used. Why? I don't know what kind of boot settings method to use. Please explain, thanks!
