Look at this thread, it explains methods for downloading via ftp. The RAR filename should preferably use a fixed format, with only the version number differing in the filename. Only then can it be sorted by date (that way assigning the version number variable becomes very simple).

As for extracting rar archives, the command in command-line mode is just rar. Open WinRAR's command manual and you'll see. Extracting it and then executing it is very easy to do.

How can I download a RAR from a specific folder on an FTP server, and then extract it locally? The RAR filename includes a version number. How can I get the version number.... Asking for advice.
