My 98, after I installed msclient for dos, suddenly won't boot. I don't know why.
It shows the following error message:
VFAT Device Initialization Fail
a decivice or recourse required by VFAT is not present or is unavaliable VFAT can not continue
system halted
Everyone, please help little brother analyze this. How should this problem be solved.

Try deleting the contents in config.sys and see. (Back it up first; I don't know whether deleting it will cause any problems.)

Just don't start those MSCLIENT files before entering Win98.
The specific method is to move IFSHLP.SYS in CONFIG.SYS that points to the MSCLIENT folder, and those commands at the end of AUTOEXEC.BAT that load MSCLIENT files, into a separate batch file. Later, if you want to start MSCLIENT, run that file; as long as you don't run that file, Win98 can boot normally.

Thanks to you two. Also, after I installed msclient, when it gets to net start it reports an out of memory error.

Then you can configure the memory a bit, for example enable UMB, use drivers that take less memory, and so on. For details, see the site's "DOS Usage" section:
