Is there any way to play DVDs under DOS?

Use qv, quite a lot of newer dvdrip files can be watched. I even watched "Kala Is a Dog" under DOS yesterday!
I guess divx works, xvid doesn't.

Because of licensing issues, QuickView also won't provide DVD playback in the future; both DIVX and XVID require converting the files, and on my lousy CPU (PII) that takes a ton of time and effort >_<
Could it be that right now there really is no way in this world to play DVDs under DOS?

It's just that there's no way to solve the subtitle problem. Oh well, I'll just treat it as listening practice.
