There are more and more USB drives nowadays, such as USB hard disks, USB CD-ROM drives, USB flash disks (such as U disks), and so on. Under DOS, aside from the ones built into some motherboard BIOSes, there are also quite a few USB drivers, such as DUSE, USBASPI, etc. Has everyone successfully used them to drive their own USB drives? Everyone is welcome to actively take part in the poll, and you can also share and introduce your own successful experiences or driver setup process, so that it will be easier for everyone to drive USB drives under DOS. Thank you, everyone!

My success rate is 80%: 4 successes out of 5.
The successful ones were two kinds of U disks, one USB 1.1 hard disk (external enclosure), and one USB CD writer. One USB 2.0 hard disk (enclosure) did not succeed. It was driven with msdos7.1. |

Using duse, it can detect it, but for some reason assigning a drive letter fails every time
Using usbaspi.sys + Di1000dd.sys, it can successfully read and write the usb hd every time ibm blueghost usb 1.1 30G chipset: I815E |

I only have a U disk, so I could only try a U disk, and it succeeds every time (using the Super MSDOS7.1 boot disk)!

Today I tried again on a p4 845G machine with a Mobile Star 30G USB2.0, a Samsung 128M, a Netac 64M, and a COD CoolDisk 128M flash disk. Same as yesterday: DUSE can detect them, but assigning drive letters fails for all of them, while usbaspi.sys + Di1000dd.sys supports these devices perfectly.
Just now I also tested the Iomega aspi*hci.sys+guest.exe combination. It can detect the usb controller, but drive-letter assignment fails for the USB hard disk and succeeds for all the flash disks. I don’t know whether the driver has a capacity limit. |

Teacher Mo, lydong, Chanzong, Master Rushi, and others basically succeed in driving them almost every time, so come cast your votes too and explain a bit.

I suggest that whether it succeeds or not, everyone should list their hardware specs, and then wait for the teachers to improve it, OK? I’ll list mine first. I tried on two machines and neither worked.
1. Award Software, Inc. ASUS P4T-F ACPI BIOS Revision 1006, 2001-11-1(850) x86 Family 15 Model 0 Stepping 7 GenuineIntel ~1506 Mhz(423) Total physical memory 256.00 MB(RDR) 2. HP original-brand machine (815) Intel C733 128 Total physical memory 128.00 MB(SDRAM) Tried to detect a USB hard disk (enclosure), failed |

Situation at the time:
Choosing item 1 was normal, but choosing item 3 caused a hang when booting to autoexec.bat, and the floppy drive kept reading. Tested in real mode. Specs: award-chipset motherboard, Pentium 4 1.3 GHz processor, 128 M memory, using a Lenovo 32M U disk. |

The following is quoted from error’s post on 2003-7-20 16:18:21: It doesn’t necessarily have to be USBASPI2.SYS! You can try USBASPI1.SYS from the “USB Driver Collection”! |
