Fixed UIDE handling of cache XMS errors, NOT a big problem since XMS memory
almost never fails! Minor UIDE/UIDEJR size changes. Other drivers unchanged
(re-dated only).

Fixed the handling of cache XMS errors in UIDE. It's not a big issue because XMS memory almost never fails! There are minor changes in the size of UIDE/UIDEJR. Other drivers remain unchanged (only the date is updated).

Bump, what are the advantages of XMGR.SYS compared to win98se's himem.sys? Who can briefly compare the differences between the two.

1) Other EMM drivers are essentially "abandoned", some with still - uncorrected ERRORS, and those drivers are no - longer recommended!

2) XMGR provides up to 4 - GB of XMS memory and is written to the V3.0 XMS Specifications.

3) XMGR has direct support for V3.70+ UMBPCI by Uwe Sieber.

4) After the EMM driver enables upper - memory, XMGR can load there with no /B switch, copy all of its "boot" data, and take - over XMS work. Only its XMS "Handles" table remains in low memory.

A simple comparison between the two: XMGR.SYS can obtain more UMB memory than himemsys. Approximately 9K more. If the UMB driver is not loaded, it can obtain 3K more conventional memory than himem.sys. Himem.sys can also support 4G memory. Himem.sys has parameter settings for whether to display prompt information, while XMGR does not. The two are similar, and perhaps himem.sys has better compatibility.

HIMEM.SYS does not follow the standard XMS 3.0 specification. Even if it really could use 4GB (I don't have that much memory to test), there's no guarantee there won't be issues. Whether this is intentional by Microsoft or they just don't want to invest resources, who knows!

Brother Jack doesn't want to include unnecessary things in the driver, so he only set simple messages. Any software should read the documentation carefully. The foreigners also say: Read The Fxxxxxx Manual

Maybe HIMEM.SYS will be better with old hardware, but efficiency and bugs are the reasons why XMGR exists. Also, XMGR is for new hardware, such as AMD AthlonXP or newer CPUs
