If no driver is needed, then I can throw it onto the boot disk!
Could a moderator say something about it?

If it's an ISA sound card, then under DOS you only need to set the BLASTER environment variable. But if it's a PCI card or an onboard sound card, then you need a driver. But no matter whether it's an ISA, PCI, AC97, or some other kind of sound card, the prerequisite is that you have to connect the audio cable from the CD-ROM drive to the sound card~

Then wouldn't putting CD-PLAY on the boot disk be a waste!

Not necessarily. If the user is using an ISA sound card, then no driver needs to be installed at all, just set the DOS BLASTER environment variable. But if they're using PCI or AC97 and so on, then have them manually install the sound card driver...

DD, I know what you mean,
but setting the DOS BLASTER environment parameters isn't necessarily the same on every machine!

If he hasn't installed any hardware that would take up the I/O address and IRQ, then the defaults are fine, that is, set it like this:
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6

If I'd known earlier, when I bought my motherboard I would have insisted on getting one with an ISA slot no matter what!

Teacher Mo said before that it wasn't necessarily so either... Teacher Mo, come explain it again...
