Today when I turned it on, it suddenly wouldn't boot. What happens is: the 2000 screen appears and it can continue, then the Windows 2000 startup dialog appears showing "Starting up", but right after that "Preparing network connections" appears (this never happened before, and I don't even have broadband)? Then it just stops there and doesn't move. Even Safe Mode won't get in (but if "Preparing network connections" doesn't appear, it just stops at the logon screen). My other system, XP, can still boot. (Didn't find any virus.) Not sure how to solve this. Please give me some pointers.

I ran into this once too, it was caused by a virus. I deleted a few files and that still didn't work, but after a system repair it was fine.
