Some software needs to be unpacked first,
otherwise you can't extract Chinese text with edit2!
The most common is software compressed with UPX!
The unpacking method is UPX -d NDD.EXE

Actually I Chinese-localize things with EDIT2 just like you do!
There really aren't any special tricks to it,
just keep 东方快车 open beside you,
and whenever you run into a word you don't know, use 东方快车 to check the dictionary!
Sometimes it's very easy to get the ┃ marker wrong
actually, you can add a ┃ after a short marker to determine the position
For example, in the section below
*000002E0 0010┃0123456789ABCDEF┃ ┃
*000002F2 0028┃Supported APM Version: $No APM support.$┃
this makes Chinese localization much easier!
If you still get the bytes wrong, you can look at
*000002F2 0028┃Supported APM Version: $No APM support.$┃
The 0028 in there is a hexadecimal number used to mark the length of this sentence.
Also, many programs extracted with edit2 only come out as garbled text,
this is because these programs were compressed with software like UPX or PKlite,
so you have to decompress them first before you can extract the characters!
Decompression methods:
UPX －d filename
UNP filename
That's all.
