I need to install a mouse on a device running an old DOS operating environment. Only a serial port is available, so please give me some guidance.
I have two questions: 1. Does a serial mouse need to take different hardware environments into account, or only the software? Because my device's structure is a bit different from an ordinary PC; 2. If only software needs to be considered, do I also need to care about which main program is running? What I mean is, is a serial mouse universal like in WIDOWS, or can it only be used for one specific host application? If anyone has developed this before or is confident about it, please contact me. As long as the machine is IBM PC-compatible, it can use an IBM PC-based serial mouse. To use a mouse in an application, you must first install a mouse driver, Mouse.com or another one.

Generally they all support it. I like using ctmouse 1.9.

DOS programming supports any mouse. Under DOS, interrupts are used to read and operate the mouse.
