This morning I asked for help about a DOS boot disk for when there is no hard disk, and I got a very quick reply from the moderator. First, thank you! The moderator said the boot disks here can all meet my needs. So I downloaded one from the address below.
http://newdos.yginfo.net/dosware/mdos71bd.zip
But after extracting it, the files are too large. They won't fit on a floppy. What should I do? If I downloaded the wrong one, please reply with the download link, sorry to trouble you.

Lastly, I'd also like to ask the moderator to teach me: after booting from the floppy, how do I check whether the hard disk is already bad?
Sorry to trouble you. Sorry to trouble you. I'm embarrassed

I'm pretty clueless. In reply #2, HUNOME said to use “HDCOPY”. How do I do that? Is HDCOPY a DOS command? If it is, then when actually writing it, what format should I type it in? Thanks for replying :)

If you don't know how to use HD-COPY, then after downloading, just run the MAKEBOOT command inside.

The problem is that after downloading, the file is too big. I can't put it onto the floppy. Right now I just don't know how to make the downloaded file mdos71bd.zip into a boot disk on a floppy. Please advise, moderator. I'm in a hurry :)

How about this: do you have WinImage? Just write that MSDOS710.IMG directly onto a normal floppy and that'll do it.

I'll post here the instructions from my boot disk for using HDCOPY to write an IMG file:

Run HDCOPY under WIN98 or DOS, then in the upper-right window of HDCOPY use the arrow keys to move the highlight to
GET FROM FILE, press Enter, then at the prompt below Enter path/filename : input the correct path and filename of the
image file you want to write. For example, if your YYSBD1.IMG is in YYSTAR on drive D, then you enter
D:\YYSTAR\YYSBD1.IMG, after pressing Enter and waiting for the file transfer to the buffer to finish, insert a blank floppy, move the highlight to
write. That will write YYSBD1 to the floppy.

I'm really very sorry. I'm just too dumb. Moderator, when you say run HDCOPY, I don't know how. Is HDCOPY a piece of software? Under 98, in “Run”, I directly typed HDCOPY, but the system said it couldn't be found! Please explain it once more. I've really caused too much trouble for you two responsible moderators. Sorry for bothering you :)
Also, the site admin mentioned using this thing called WinImage. Is WinImage a piece of software? I haven't used it either. Could the admin explain it in a bit more detail? Okay?

Actually, the friend above doesn't need to blame himself too much. I'm a newbie too, and I've run into the same problem and seen the same thing. All the experts and moderators really should give detailed guidance to newbies like me. Many thanks.

Success! I really did use WINIMAGE to put it onto the disk successfully. It's actually not that complicated. You just go to somewhere like Huajun Software Park, find WINIMAGE, download and install it, then download the Chinese localization pack, then open the localization pack. After that you can use WINIMAGE. Since it's in Chinese, just slowly look through the options and you'll figure out how to write it to the disk.

At first I was the most clueless of all, and only copied the files over, so some disks simply couldn't boot.
