Question about booting an IBM laptop's PCMCIA CD-ROM drive under DOS. - China DOS Union Forum

I have an IBM laptop, with no CD-ROM drive and no floppy drive. It has 2 USB ports and a PCMCIA interface.

Usually I use a USB flash drive, copy DOS boot files onto it, and then boot from the USB drive.

Now I newly got an IBM PCMCIA CD-ROM drive, but I don't have the dedicated DOS boot files for it.

Later I found some DOS boot files for assorted off-brand PCMCIA CD-ROM drives and wanted to use them as a substitute. But after loading them, I found that the CD-ROM drive could already be driven, that is, it could be powered on, and the drive door could open and close. But under DOS there was no CD-ROM drive letter. In other words, the drive letter probably wasn't assigned.

But I don't really understand how to adjust these lines under DOS. I can only upload the materials I can provide, and hope an expert can help take a look and see whether there is something wrong with the lines in them, causing no drive letter to appear.

Among them, the one in the PCMICA DOS boot disk is an off-brand generic boot file,
the one in the IBMDOS boot disk is the DOS boot content provided on IBM's website.
The one in TP240 is also boot content provided on IBM's website.

All three have the same problem: in the end the CD-ROM drive can be loaded, but there is no CD-ROM drive letter.
