Long ago, when I was still using Windows 98, one time my system crashed. Since I was a computer newbie, my friend introduced me to a master to fix my computer.
He looked at the computer and asked me if I had a Windows 98 disk. I said I didn't.
He thought for a moment and asked me to hand him the landline phone. I wondered why I needed a phone to fix the computer, but since he was a master, I didn't dare say anything and pulled the phone out and gave it to him.
He connected the empty end of the phone line to a jack on the computer, then entered DOS, and then kept pressing keys on the phone. He pressed the keys very fast, but only the 0 and 1 keys. I didn't understand what this was for, but I didn't dare ask. After watching for more than half an hour, he still kept pressing these two keys. I gradually got a bit sleepy. I asked him how long this would take, and he said it would take a few hours. I made him a cup of tea and then went to sleep next door by myself.
When I woke up, I saw that more than 4 hours had passed. I got up and went to the next door and saw him debugging in Windows 98. After a while, he said, "You try it." I sat down in the chair and used it. It really worked. I didn't understand computers back then, thanked him and left.
Later, I gradually learned more about computers and finally understood that the master at that time had written a Windows 98 system in machine language. Later, I asked my friend about the master's whereabouts, and my friend said that he went to the United States a few years ago and has been out of touch ever since....
