Experts, I'm a Linux newbie. I just finished installing "Red Flag" on a 40G IDE hard disk. Because I found that it doesn't support SATA hard disks, now that I already have "Red Flag" installed, how can I make it recognize a SATA hard disk? Please don't hesitate to advise me, thanks.

Recompile the kernel. If you can't handle it, then switch to another Linux.

I'm a newbie and don't know how to compile the kernel. I downloaded a kernel before; it didn't seem very big, but I don't know if compiling it wrong would cause the system to crash?

If you're a newbie, then don't compile it. Even experienced users may not necessarily know how to compile a kernel. Anyone who can compile a kernel counts as an expert.

For compiling the kernel, you can find a simple tutorial; there are lots of them online. If you want to compile one for Red Flag, it's best to find an article about Red Flag. Copying it by analogy works too. As long as you don't delete the old kernel after compiling, generally there won't be any problem. Then boot into the new kernel and try it. If it doesn't work, start over. Google it and start over. You'll succeed eventually.
