My computer has three systems installed: xp.vista,ubuntu. The installation order was as follows: xp.vista,ubuntu. A few days ago, because I hot-plugged a video card while the power was on, the system could no longer boot. So I used the Vista installation CD to repair Vista's boot, but after adding the XP boot entry under Vista, XP still would not boot. In Vista, when I opened C:, there was nothing abnormal with boot.ini or ntldr. Left with no other choice, I reinstalled the system using the XP installation CD, and I did not format C: during installation. The result was obvious: the reinstalled system went into the old Windows folder. Then I used the Vista installation CD to repair the boot entries, and under Vista I used bcdedit to repair the XP entry, restoring dual-boot startup. But the following problem appeared, and it has me utterly puzzled:
Under XP, when I open boot.ini with Notepad, its contents are different from the contents of boot.ini opened with Notepad under Vista?? Could there really be two boot.ini files with the same name on drive C:??? I hope an expert can explain this, thanks!
