I want to install Vista 64bit + Ubuntu dual boot, and want to use GRUB4DOS to boot, I wonder if there is a way to install GRUB4DOS into the MBR under 64-bit Vista?
Or who can tell me how to install grldr to the MBR under Ubuntu.

I tried it, and it fails when writing the MBR..
Vista 64 should have limited hardware access rights for 32-bit programs, right?

Theoretically, there are no hardware access restrictions when running 32-bit programs on x64 Windows, but if a certain driver is needed in the process, problems may occur because x64 Windows cannot use 32-bit drivers.

Then why does grubinst fail to write to the MBR normally under Vista 64?

Why does grubinst fail to write to the MBR properly under Vista 64?

It may use a certain driver when directly reading and writing the disk, and this program was compiled in a 32-bit environment, so it will call 32-bit drivers, which is not feasible in a 64-bit environment

Can't this be installed with Wubi without writing to the MBR?

The LZ can use Wubi to install a 64-bit Ubuntu. Actually, Wubi installation virtually creates an MBR. If you need to install other systems, you can directly use the GRUB that comes with Ubuntu. Moreover, if there are any problems, you can modify menu.lst under Windows, which is very convenient.

To achieve the goal, can't we use bootlace.com under DOS?
