| DOS启动盘 & LOGO技术 (启动盘室) » Better to make miniWindows PE instead, and don’t limit the size to floppies either. |

It would be best if it could boot from CD and automatically enter a graphical interface. It would be great if it could support Chinese and various disk partitions and file systems.
Why go to all the trouble of making a floppy-boot 32, 98, and the like again? After putting in so much effort to make it, it still wouldn’t be of much use. Why bother? |

My personal opinion and idea is:
Use CD-ROM booting or booting from a USB flash drive, so that a lot of necessary programs can be included, such as: diskman, kv3000, pqmagic, ghost, etc., and add a GUI system that can be used at any time, which makes running and editing convenient. Using only the keyboard all the time isn’t comfortable either. All of this together would not exceed 32MB. It should be quite easy to achieve. Next, we can work together to improve the graphical interface and drivers, and solve some DOS bugs. That would be very good. |

The following is a post by steven101 at 2003-6-30 3:17:52: Does this still need imagining? I don’t even know how many of these I’ve already made~~~ Using a 320M mini CD (radius about 2CM), I integrated dozens of tools, including partitioning, data rescue, data backup, and so on. At that time there was no PE yet; if there had been, I would have made that too~~~ This is a place for discussing DOS technology, so if you’re not interested in DOS, you can go look around elsewhere~~~ But you should know that most boot CD creation techniques are built on the foundation of DOS technology! |

I think if someone can’t even learn DOS well, they’d blush to call themselves an expert.

WINPE is somewhat convenient for system repair, and it’s pretty good, just a bit slow. If it could be slimmed down and made faster, it would be a very good tool. Also, PE is basically based on DOS too, it’s just able to support most WIN32 programs.

Support this. It would be best if an expert could slim down PE and make it floppy-sized while still fully supporting NTFS—wouldn’t that become DOS9! Even if it can’t be made floppy-sized, it should still be compressed as much as possible and turned into a boot system that can fit on a USB flash drive.

I completely agree with the view in post #7: slim down PE and make it into a mini CD.

It would be enough if a slimmed-down winpe could fit on a mini CD. My hard drive partitions are all in NTFS format now, so that would be more convenient.

Different systems need different software. This is a DOS forum, so of course it should be a place to discuss DOS.
If you want PE, it’s everywhere. DOS has the advantages of DOS, and PE has the advantages of PE. They are different things. |

After reading for quite a while, I was scared to death.
How is pe related to dos~ PE is based on Windows XP, and Windows XP is based on NT.... Other than the similar command line, Nothing to do with DOS.... Also... PE isn’t everywhere either... ISO files aren’t that easy to find either... I had to search unbelievably far and wide to find one of my ISOs... Note E is based on NT not DOS...Most people haven’t figured this out So they talk about PE here |
