Gentlemen, I'm using a CD burner to boot the system, via a USB interface (I made an external burner myself by taking a built-in burner and adding a Mobile Star external optical drive enclosure). It can boot the system, but then it says it can't detect the optical drive. I modified config.sys and autobat.exe but still couldn't make it work. I don't know whether anyone has a way to solve this. Also, some DOS software used by our workplace can run under WinXP, but when it calls full-screen graphics, nothing can be drawn, and the screen turns into some kind of messy garbled stuff. I don't know whether that can be solved either. Thanks

For a USB CD burner, just like an ordinary USB CD-ROM drive, you need to load a USB driver under DOS. Try DUSE or USBASPI+USBCD.

Thanks!! Then does that mean I need to add something, or can I just run duse, usbaspi+usbcd directly?? I tried duse, using addev duse.exe drives=2, then findcd /s, but I still only get one cd-rom. I'll try subaspi+usbcd and see.

Let me explain: it's best not to load DUSE directly from the DOS command line. It's better to load it in CONFIG.SYS with the DEVICE command, otherwise the success rate will drop a lot~~

So when you were designing the software, did you consider the issue of using a boot disk and burning it onto a CD for booting? If not, I think it should have that, because booting from CD is fast.

The following is quoted from superglg738's post at 2003-6-26 20:42:16:

Of course! Many people have succeeded! If it doesn't work, it's not that it can't be burned onto a CD, but that the method is wrong. There was a dedicated discussion of this issue on the forum before, just go look through the old posts.

I first make a boot floppy, then when burning I choose bootable CD burning. Is there a problem?? I've burned lots of bootable CDs with no problem, I'll try again and see.
