I have a question:
After my machine failed to move a partition with Pqmagic6.0 (it gave an error and exited halfway; before that I had tried to install Solaris 9,
and during partitioning it didn't succeed, so I didn't continue the installation), then when I installed win2000, no matter what I did I couldn't have
the CD writer and the CD-ROM connected at the same time.
In the end I had to remove the CD-ROM before I could get win2000 installed, but later when I connected dual hard drives, it again caused a blue screen at boot (the same happened
when the CD writer and CD-ROM were connected at the same time),
just like the screen you get when you put a win2000 system hard drive into another machine with different hardware specs.
Then I reinstalled it N times. With PQMAGIC6.0, it could no longer see the disk, and with the win98se boot CD, Fdisk also
wouldn't run. It gave no message at all, just hung as if dead,
as if it couldn't find the disk, though format c: /s did work.
When reinstalling win2000, every time after it finished copying files and rebooted, it reported: -miss operate system. I tried low-level formatting,
and in the end it also said it was unsuccessful. Could it be that my low-level format program is too old?
Both the program and the hard drive are Seagate.
I also restored the MBR. When using PQMAGIC it always reported sector errors, overlapping partitions, and things like that; I didn't remember the exact messages.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Try using DM. Cheng Yi's DM9.56 bilingual universal edition is very easy to use.
Also, could it be that when connecting dual hard drives and the CD-ROM drive, the master/slave jumpers were not set correctly?

What motherboard is it? It looks a bit like a motherboard compatibility problem.
Also, for dm just try to find the latest version, and add the /x parameter when running it. There's no need to mess with any so-called universal edition.

It's not a master/slave jumper problem. Maybe my motherboard CMOS doesn't support multiple optical drives?
Now I used an Lformat program to do a low-level format once, and it's fine. I almost sent it in for repair, but I still don't know what exactly the reason was.

Why does everyone like to use low-level format at the drop of a hat? Dizzy S.
Unless absolutely necessary, I won't use lformat. I'm afraid it may damage the hard drive. (Although I don't think there's much logic to that, I'd rather believe it than not.)

I agree with the poster above, it's better not to use lformat on hard drives too much. Also: if you're installing win2000, it's best not to add parameters when using format. If you must add one, just use /q. Using /s will cause errors when installing win2000.

Really? Then you mean?? Installing win2000 from DOS mode under win98 will give an error?
