Because the original server was shut down, the original Startup Star floppy disk simplified version can no longer be downloaded. At the repeated request of friends, I spent a lot of spare time (I am very busy with work) to comprehensively modify the boot disk and rewrite all batch files. This simplified special version was produced. Why is it called the special version? Because it supports both optical and floppy drives (this is the repeated request of friends).

To support both optical and floppy drives, the first boot disk still uses the IMG image file (YYSBD1.IMG), and the second (YYSBD2) and third (YYSBD3) tool disks use the folder form.

If you want to make a floppy disk, use the HD-COPY I provided to directly expand YYSBD1.IMG to a formatted blank floppy disk; copy CAB2.CAB from the YYSBD2 folder to the second floppy disk; copy CAB3.CAB from YYSBD3 to the third floppy disk.

If you want to make a CD (not my classic CD version, it should be a simplified CD version, hehe), the method is to use YYSBD1.IMG as the CD boot image directly when burning. The files in YYSBD2 and YYSBD3 can be copied to any position on your CD (no position limit, can be placed on different CDs, and the Startup Star will automatically find these files). Isn't it convenient enough.

This version has the following updates compared to the original version:
1. Adopt the latest simplified IO.SYS by WENGIER, the volume is reduced by more than 100K, and the logic lock is fully prevented. Replace the command manager (COMAMD.COM) of ROM-DOS7.10 with the one pre-installed by MSDOS7.10, the volume is reduced by half, and the function is more powerful.
2. Because it was found that there are too many motherboard types incompatible with UMBPCI (I will talk about the detailed situation in a special post), I switched back to Microsoft's EMM386, but retained an option for UMBPCI. If some software (mainly DOS games) is not supported by EMM386, you can choose UMBPCI.
3. Start to support Chinese long file names.
4. Start to support multiple CD-ROM drives, fix the bug that it will freeze without a CD-ROM drive, and can judge whether there is a CD-ROM drive and whether to load the CD-ROM drive driver. Use FINDCD.COM 1.0 and WENGIER's FINDCD.EXE to find the CD-ROM drive letter, and support IDE, SCSI, USB CD-ROM drives (I don't have USB devices, need to be verified). Replace Microsoft's MSCDEX with SHSUCDX of FREEDOS, the memory occupied is less than 11K, which is smaller than the combination of CLOAKING+MSCDEX (Microsoft's is even more incomparable), and its compatibility and function are much more powerful than the latter two.
5. Newly added manual installation and automatic installation buttons for WINNT workstation, server; WIN2000 server, WIN2000 advanced server; WINXP professional edition. Can automatically search for the installation files of WIN98, WINME, WINNT, WIN2000, WINXP in any CD-ROM, and support searching four CD-ROM drives. If the installation files are the same in the four CD-ROM drives, the installation file in the first CD-ROM drive shall prevail, and no conflict will occur.
6. Support starting WINDOWS98, and can automatically search for the WIN98 system on drives C and D (if it is in another partition, please start WIN98 in the traditional way at the command prompt by yourself). The search function is very powerful. The directory where WIN98 is located does not have to be WINDOWS, and it also takes care of friends who like to rename WIN.COM.
7. The operation is more fool-proof, and the prompt information appears at any time.
8. The input method adds full pinyin and double pinyin.
9. Replace NTFSDOS with READNTFS, the function is much more powerful than NTFSDOS, support double operation of prompt and graphical interface, not only can read files in NTFS partition, but also can copy and delete files. It can also search for files in NTFS partition. Although it is more than 100K, it is only more than 40K after compression.
10. Replace SFDISK with WENGIER Chineseized SPFDISK2000-3K, the best partition manager.
11. Cancel PCTOOL and add Oriental Express 2000 FOR DOS, so that everyone can automatically Chineseize software under DOS.
12. Replace LFORMAT with LOW, the best Chinese low-level formatting tool.
13. Replace DISKCOPY with QCOPY, a floppy disk copying tool under the graphical interface, and use a special formatting method to increase the running speed of the floppy disk by 50%.
14. Replace UNZIP with PKUNZIP.
15. Newly added UNARJ, a tool to extract ARJ compressed files.
16. Newly added EXT, which is more convenient to extract files from CAB compressed packages.
17. Newly added WBAT, a batch processing tool that can write dialog boxes and menus.
18. Newly added WINDRAWS, a program similar to WIN98 painting under DOS. So that everyone can do simple drawing under DOS.
19. Newly added REGEDIT自带 by WIN98, you can repair the registry under DOS.
20. Newly added SCANDISK自带 by WIN98. Disk scanning tool.
21. Newly added WPS2.2, the best Chinese word processing software under DOS.
22. Newly added QV1.03, the best multimedia tool under DOS. Can view pictures, listen to music, and watch DVDs.
23. Newly added CMOSCR, a tool to crack BIOS passwords. Everyone can solve any BIOS problem in combination with ICMOS on the second tool disk.
24. Newly added a large number of external commands and tools of FREEDOS, replaced the external commands of the original MS-DOS, such as DELTREE, ATTRIB, CHOICE, etc. (see readme for details), the volume is smaller, and the function is more powerful.
25. Added a help learning section. In addition to the floppy disk simplified version instructions and two self-written DOS teaching articles, more than a dozen selected excellent tutorials on system self-maintenance and DOS tool usage are also selected. The authors of the China DOS Union are WENGIER, MYS, and Zen. Everyone can learn DOS basic and advanced knowledge, and can master the use methods of basic tools.
26. Wrote a detailed README (simplified version help document).

All functions have been repeatedly tested by me, but after all, my energy is limited, and there are too many batch files, so it is inevitable to make mistakes. Therefore, I hope everyone will practice and verify. At the same time, I also hope that experts will give good suggestions and point out the deficiencies.

As for the classic CD version, I don't plan to upload it. I will have very little time after July, and I may come to the forum less. I plan to release an official version 1.0 at the end of the year, which will be a big modification. I believe it will bring unexpected surprises to everyone.

You can completely do without a floppy disk (except for booting WIN98). It has a good effect on both speed and protection of the floppy disk. And my purpose is not only to be a boot disk, but also to be used as a DOS platform.
If you want to pursue startup speed, you can burn it to a CD.

It is best not to test in VPC. There are too many bugs in VPC and the compatibility is too poor. If you have to test the application under VPC, please choose the third option (that is, the one for UMBPCI). Both the speed and compatibility are very good. All those with EMM386 in VPC are not good, but with VMWARE it is all OK, and there is absolutely no problem in the real environment.

VPC5.2 has solved many problems and is also good for testing. But if testing in a single environment, the compatibility of the boot disk itself needs to be verified. ~~~

What I value is compatibility because boot disks and such things are often circulated. If compatibility is not good, it will be a problem when you encounter it. The boot disks I made are all tested in MVW and VPC and then burned to discs to test in different real environments. Now at home, I don't have so many machines to test, so I can only test in virtual machines.
