I downloaded the command-line edition of RAR3, but it failed to run under DOS 6.22 on my 386, giving a long error message.
Is it that the CPU instruction set isn't supported, or that real DOS mode isn't supported? If it's the latter, I might still be able to think of a workaround... |

What error did it give? What exactly was the error message? Anyway, the DOS edition of RAR 3.11 works perfectly fine under my pure MS-DOS 7.10.

It seems like it can only run in a DOS window under Windows, right?! It doesn't support running under pure DOS. Next time you want everyone to help look at what the error is, you'll have to show everyone the error message.

Why can't it be used under pure DOS?? That can't be possible! I often use RAR under pure DOS!

RAR 3.0 can be used under both Windows and DOS~~

But 3.2 can't! The earlier ones seemed to be able to.

This really is quite strange! After making this post, I went and tested it again. This time I used the RAR3 that came from the "New DOS Era" "DOS Toolkit (DOSTOOLS.ZIP)", named rar32.exe. After extracting and running this RAR by itself, it said emx.exe was missing. After extracting emx.exe from the same place in the archive, it ran normally! The original version only had a standalone ｒａｒ．ｅｘｅ, and there was no prompt about missing ｅｍｘ. Maybe it's just a different version. |
