The computer at my workplace is a Lenovo machine, I forget what series it is (P4 2.4G). A CMOS password was set, the kind where it asks for a password as soon as you power on. It was changed several times by someone, and now nobody knows what it is anymore. Is there any way to crack it without opening the case?

Yes, use debug.
Search with Google. |

The bad thing is I can't even get into DOS (booting from the hard drive).
It asks for the password as soon as it powers on!!! |

Then that won't work, you'll have to discharge it.

Use DEBUG under DOS
C:\DEBUG -O 70 10 -O 71 00 -Q Just reboot after that. This clears COMS, and it can also clear the password |

I didn't read it clearly just now,
then you'd better remove the battery. Opening the case is no problem, Lenovo will still honor the warranty! |

Since yours is a Lenovo brand-name machine, why not contact the manufacturer? Wouldn't that be safer?

If it's a laptop, opening the case won't help either. You'll have to go to the manufacturer or a repair shop to crack the password. You can also find the chip that stores the password, remove it, read it with a chip reader, and then analyze it to find the password.
If it's a desktop, then you can. (1) debug cracking method After entering DOS, type or or — o 70 10 — o 70 10 — o 70 20 — o 71 ff — o 71 10 — o 71 20 — q — q —q (2) utility software cracking method (3) BIOS flashing method (4) battery discharge method (5) jumper discharge method |

Another way is to change the computer's hardware setup, temporarily unplug the sound card, network card, hard drive, or floppy drive, then reboot the computer. The BIOS firmware first checks whether the machine's hardware configuration matches the parameters in COMS, and if they don't match, it will initialize the COMS parameters at startup.

Won't booting from a floppy work? Then switch to the C drive, use the DEBUG command to clear the CMOS password, and then set the power-on password again.
