The cabsdk package released by Microsoft includes two executables, cabarc.exe and makecab.exe. The version of makecab.exe is

Microsoft (R) Cabinet Maker - Version (32) 1.00.0601 (03/18/97)
Copyright (c) Microsoft Corp 1993-1997. All rights reserved.

The file length is 152,576 byte

The version of the cabarc.exe file that comes with it is

Microsoft (R) Cabinet Tool - Version 1.00.0601 (03/18/97)
Copyright (c) Microsoft Corp 1996-1997. All rights reserved.


But later I also saw a newer version of makecab.exe, a standalone file, with this version:

Microsoft (R) Cabinet Maker - Version (32) 1.00.603.4 (06/25/98)
Copyright (c) Microsoft Corp 1993-1998. All rights reserved.

The file length is 154,112 byte

So I'm wondering whether there is a corresponding newer version of cabarc.exe. On Microsoft's official website, the latest version of cabsdk is still the 1997 one.

The latest version of cabarc is in the 2003 support tools, version 5.2.3790. Actually there isn't much difference.

makecab is included with xp/vista.
