There is no such thing as a Chinese edition of DOS; you can only load a Chinese character support system on top of DOS. You can go look in the “download room.”

There was never a Chinese edition of DOS, but there was a Japanese edition of DOS.

How does the Japanese edition of DOS display things? Does DOS itself come with Japanese fonts?
Is there any way for a Chinese edition of DOS to do it too without going through a Chinese character support system? |

I don't know whether DOS/V and the Japanese edition of DOS are actually the same thing, but in fact DOS/V also loads a Japanese system on the basis of DOS; it's just that files have to be preloaded in config.sys. I think DOS is unlike Windows in that you don't have to change the files themselves to switch it to a different language.

Japanese DOS loads Japanese fonts at startup, and the prompts for internal DOS commands and external DOS commands are in Japanese, so compared with the usual Chinese-localized DOS, it should be an officially Japanese-localized DOS.

MS-DOS also had a similar Chinese edition! It was PDOS6.22. After installing the MS-DOS 6.22 Chinese System, the system will load its kernel at startup. After running PDOS, help and the help for internal commands all become Chinese. Most special of all, if you use its FORMAT A: /S to make a boot disk, then after booting from that disk and using VER, it will display MS-DOS 6.22 Chinese edition instead of MS-DOS Version 6.22!
