I downloaded a DOS game, The Legend of Heroes 1. I checked the CD files and confirmed that it has CD audio tracks in it.
When I run it directly under XP, there are only sound effects and no music (that is, it can't read the audio tracks).

When I run the game in a DOS environment emulated by Virtual PC, both the sound effects and music are there, but the screen does not display completely, and the bottom 1/3 cannot be shown.

I'm really puzzled now~~ It looks like Virtual PC isn't very usable either.
Is there any way to solve both of these problems?

If you want to hear authentic DOS sound effects and music, it's best to do it in pure DOS and load the sound card driver.
There is always some distortion in a virtual environment.

So does that mean that playing this DOS game under XP is also using an emulated DOS? Looks like anything that's not the original is imperfect.

Yes. Under XP, the environment for running DOS programs is also a DOS virtualizer.
DOS programs, especially games, are very picky about the runtime environment.
